YDRE OG INDRE BRÆNDPUNKTER
Upcoming solo exhibition at Galleri Krasbørtsig, Smallegade 52B, st.tv., 2000 Frederiksberg
Vernissage: Saturday, June 13. 2026 (Follow Jan Oskar Rønnow on social media for upcoming info)
The exhibition moves between two poles: “ydre Brændpunkter”, where the world meets us sharply and unfiltered, and “indre brændpunkter“, where light is refracted within the mind itself. In “Ydre Brændpunkter”, concrete materials such as sand, dust, textile fragments and geological “tyndslib” are used – collected from historically and politically charged places such as Gaza, Afghanistan, Greenland, the USA, Hiroshima, Ghana. The materials are processed with high technical precision, including various microscopic methods, where the magnification does not have a spectacular purpose, but functions as an opportunity for immersion. No material is neutral; each element carries traces of time, movement and context.
In “indre brændpunkter” section, the sunflower stands centrally as a rich and ambiguous symbol. Traditionally, it represents life force, joy, loyalty and the search for light – it turns towards the sun and radiates vitality. But the sunflower also contains deeper, more fragile layers: it can show decay, illusion and the changes that occur when perception is shifted. Through a series of works, all revolving around the sunflower, we explore how the same motif is experienced differently depending on the state of the brain. The eye still sees clearly and well, but what reaches consciousness changes – colors become diffuse, contours are broken, the whole is fragmented. The works depict these inner paths, where vision slips and reality is shaped in new ways. The previous working title for this section was “Paths in Dementia” – a reference to the winding paths the brain can take when memory, attention and perception change. The exhibition invites the viewer to feel how the same light can be perceived very differently – depending on which inner focal point it hits.
Here you are invited to experience how the light is refracted within the mind itself.
