Single grain of sand collected/brought home by the last Danish soldiers in Afghanistan, June 21.

The individual grain of sand is magnified under a microscope, illuminated through a double polaroid series of images called “stacking”; it consists of about 125 individual images.

This reveals the colors of the minerals.
